Non-Conductive Frames from UAF Prevent Power Shortages, Heat Transfer

Universal Air Filter’s non-conductive filter frames eliminate the risk of power shortages associated with the use of metal filter frames while preventing heat from transferring to unwanted areas of the chassis.

Due to the small size of high-end, sophisticated electronics, chassis often have many components in close proximity. If used, a metal filter frame can come in contact with a variety of hot surfaces including circuit card components and backplanes, thus running the risk of acting as a conductive surface resulting in circuit board or equipment failure.

“There are many risks correlated with metal filter frames due to the decreasing size of chassis,” said Mike Miano, engineer and sales manager at UAF. “UAF’s non-conductive frames eliminate those dangers and reduce the chances of short-circuiting or arcing.”

Non-conductive frames offer a variety of solutions such as special metal finishes, including black anodize and epoxy powder coat to encapsulate the metallic frame surfaces and render them non-conductive. In addition, polyimide tapes are specified for non-conductive requirements in precise frame locations. Flame-retardant plastic frames are most popular and offer the additional feature of flexibility for bending around obstacles or conforming to a curved bezel design.

The non-conductive filter frames, as with every UAF filter, are available under UAF’s complimentary, round-the-clock prototype service available worldwide via www.uaf.com. The prototype service provides design engineers with assistance in meeting critical design, testing and evaluation deadlines for air filter media used in power generation, military, medical, computer networking and telecom applications. To receive a prototype, the engineer can submit a request on the Internet or via telephone, fax or e-mail. Once the prototype is submitted, it is produced and shipped within five working days.

Universal Air Filter’s non-conductive filter frames meet the following standards and classifications: UL 94 HF-1; ATCA; UL 900 Class 2; CE; Telcordia; NEBS GR-78-CORE and GR-63-CORE; micro TCA; ETSI; and are RoHS Compliant.
